The Federal Government through Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada (ISED) issued CPC-2-0-03, a policy that proponents of telecommunication towers must follow to consult with the public in order to obtain approval for a new telecommunication tower. This policy was intended to be the minimum standard under which the public and land use authorities would be consulted with on telecommunication tower projects and each municipality is encouraged to develop their own policy that can take into account local considerations.
On June 12, 2024, Council of the Town of Penetanguishene directed staff to conduct public consultation with residents and proponents on a draft policy prepared by staff. As part of the consultation, a public survey will be released seeking feedback on the draft policy, and a Public Open House will be held to share information and hear directly from residents on their concerns and suggestions for the telecommunication notice policy.

A final decision on a unique policy for the Town of Penetanguishene is planned for the Fall of 2024.
