The Cycle Penetanguishene Bike Rodeo is a FREE event for all ages. *Bike safety stations tailored towards young riders*
The event is designed to promote cycling and active transportation and to equip riders with the skills and gear needed to ride bikes this June for Bike Month.
Location: James Keating Elementary School (20 Lorne Ave, Penetanguishene)
Time: 10:30 AM to 12:30 PM
Supporters: Mountainview Cycling Club, Total Sports the Bike Shop, and the OPP.
Activities include:
1. Bike Safety Stations
- Helmet Check/Fitting
- Bike Inspection and small fixes
- Safe Riding Procedures
- Obstacle Course
- Bike Decorating Station
2. James Keating on the Move
- Safety Demonstrations & Activities
3. Youth Bikes available - Provided by the OPP
4. Bike Safety Kit for Bike Rodeo Participants. *Additional gear available by request, riders without a helmet and/or bell.
5. Commuter Challenge Support: Register for the Commuter Challenge and participate in National Commuter Week, June 1 - 7

Join the Georgian Bay Women’s Cycling Club (GBWCC) for a welcoming Commuter Group Ride designed to help inexperience commuters feel confident navigating Penetanguishene by bike, and to connect experience commuters with other cyclists in Penetanguishene! Whether you’re new to cycling or looking to start commuting to work, school, or the store, this ride will take you on a safe and convenient route, passing by bike-friendly amenities.
🚴 What to Expect:
✅ 1.5 hour Guided ride led by experienced cyclists
✅ Find out where to lock your bike securely
✅ Discover local bike maintenance stations
✅ Gain confidence riding on the road & sharing space with trafficRequirements
- Bike in riding condition - road, mountain, gravel, hybrid, e-assist bikes are all acceptable.
- Helmets required - available if needed.
- Appropriate for all riders 14+ years old * exemptions can be made for younger riders accompanied by an adult *

What is the Commuter Challenge?
- A week-long event during National Environment Week.
- A friendly competition between Canadian cities and workplaces.
- A celebration of active and sustainable commuting.
- An incentive to explore different ways to get to work.
- Locally hosted by The Town of Penetanguishene.
How Does It Work?
Participants commit to making at least one trip to work using a sustainable mode of transport:
🚶 Walk from home or park a block away and walk the rest🚴 Cycle
🚌 Take public transit
🚗 Carpool
🏡 Telework (work from home)
❌ Live too far away? park 5 minutes away and walk to participate!Individual to Do:
☑ Register as an individual. Register by May 18 t to be eligible for more prizes! www.commuterchallenge.ca .
☑ Pick-up Swag bag at the Bike Rodeo on May 31 at James Keating Elementary School, between 10:30 am – 12:30 pm
☑ Track commuting info at www.commuterchallenge.ca every day or at the end of thew week.
☑ Compete against coworkers and other Workplaces/Organizations.Perks & Incentives
🎒 Swag Bags for participants (cycling socks, sunglasses, bike lights, band-aids & more).
🎁 Draw prizes for Hydration, Inflation, Protection, & Freshen-up Kits – winners drawn daily the week of May 26.
🎟 Draw for premium commuter bags from Poppy & Peonies & Thule.🏆 Win prizes for: Top commuter (organization/workplace), top commuter (individual), top youngest & commuters, and most creative commuter.
⛑Bike safety supplies available as needed (helmets, bells, etc.).

The Trail consists of limestone, asphalt and paved sidewalk sections with a total lenght of 4.8 km. Two other trails also branch from the main trail including the Copeland Creek Trail and the Discovery Harbour Trail. This trail leads to points of interest along the waterfront through beautiful Rotary Champlain Wendat Park and are never far from amenities. While exploring these trails, you are also experiencing the history of this area including Samuel de Champlain, Etienne Brule and the Huron Nation. Click here for and interactive map
Trans Canada Trail
This trail begins at the border of Tiny Township in the west along the waterfront of Penetanguishene connecting with the Town of Midland at Penetanguishene's southerly boundary.
Discovery Harbour Trail
This 3.0 km trail begins at the Historic Port of Penetanguishene along the waterfront heading east where lumber mills, tanneries and a grand hotel once stood. Trail is a paved asphalt trail that leads to Discovery Harbour.
Copeland Creek Trail
This trail is a connection off of the Great Trail and heads along Copeland Creek over provincially significant habitat areas, and along Champlain Road. The trail is 1.25 km in length and has floating docks, bridges and crushed limestone for walking. It provides a great connection to the Champlain Road Bike Lanes. Click here for an interactive map
Payette Trails
This natural trail has many loops in a wooded setting by the Payette water tower and covers 2 km. Click here for an interactive map.
Tom Coffin Trail
This paved trail adjoining Tom Coffin Memorial Park connects to Edward Street and Robert Street West. Tom Coffin Trail is 1.1 km in length. Click here for an interactive map.

- Expect and respect other users
- Know and obey rules and laws
- Stay on the trail
- Do not disturb plants or animals
- Do not litter, please poop and scoop
- Keep dog on a leash
- Respect private property and residents
- Be prepared, to ensure your safety and the safety of others
- Stay on the right, pass on the left
- Slow down when approaching other travelers, and yield to the faster traveler
- Be courteous and communicate with other trail users
